Website Visitors

Like most websites, we collect non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each request. We use it to understand how visitors use the website and to keep it running securely. We may publish aggregated, anonymous usage trends (for example, how many codes are generated in a month); we never publish or disclose personally-identifying information this way.

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

Some interactions require us to collect personally-identifying information, and the amount and type depends on the interaction. Visitors who subscribe to the newsletter provide an email address, and visitors who use the contact form provide an email address and the content of their message. When either form is submitted we also receive technical details such as the IP address, browser user agent, language, and referring page, which we use to respond to the inquiry and to prevent spam and abuse. Using the generator itself does not require any account or personal information.

Generated Codes

The text you enter into the generator is sent to our server, which renders it as Data Matrix images and prepares your PNG, PDF, or ZIP files. Those files are stored temporarily on the server so you can download them, and they are deleted automatically within two hours. We do not read, index, or reuse the content you encode. Preview and download links include the encoded text in the URL, so treat a preview link like the text it contains when sharing it, and avoid encoding sensitive personal information you would not want transmitted to a web server.

Security

The security of your Personal Information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Advertisements

Ads on our website are delivered by Google AdSense. Google and the third-party vendors that serve ads through it use cookies to show you ads based on your visits to this and other websites, and to measure how ads perform. Analytics

reCAPTCHA

Our Contact and Subscribe forms are protected by Google reCAPTCHA to prevent spam and abuse. reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information, such as device and application data, and sends this data to Google for analysis. When we verify a submission, our server also forwards your IP address to Google as part of the reCAPTCHA verification. Use of reCAPTCHA is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Hosting, Fonts, Content Delivery and Error Monitoring

The website is hosted by SmarterASP.NET, whose servers handle every request you make to the site and keep standard web server logs (including IP addresses) for a limited period for security and troubleshooting. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts and icons from the Font Awesome CDN; when your browser requests those files, your IP address is transmitted to those services. These requests happen as soon as a page loads and do not depend on your cookie choice, because the site cannot be displayed without them. We also use Sentry, an error-monitoring service, which receives technical reports when something on the site fails; those reports can include the request details that triggered the error.

Links To External Sites

Our Service may contain links to external sites that are not operated by us. If you click on a third party link, you will be directed to that third party's site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy and terms and conditions of every site you visit.

We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party sites, products or services.

Cookies

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor's computer, and that the visitor's browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns.

We set only two first-party cookies: a technical anti-forgery cookie that protects the contact and subscribe forms, and, only if you turn off personalized ads, one that remembers that choice. Data Retention

We keep personal information only as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for:

  • Files generated by the tool (PNG, PDF, ZIP) are deleted from our server automatically within two hours.
  • Your newsletter email address is kept until you unsubscribe.
  • Messages you send us through the contact form are kept for as long as needed to handle your inquiry, or until you ask us to delete them.
  • Google Analytics retains user- and event-level data for no longer than 14 months, as configured in our Analytics property, and then deletes it automatically; aggregated reports may be kept longer.
  • Error reports sent to Sentry are kept for 30 days.
  • Our hosting provider keeps standard web server logs for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, including if you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you may have rights under applicable data protection law (such as the GDPR) regarding the personal information we hold about you, such as your newsletter email address or the details you submitted through the contact form. These rights may include the right to access, correct, or delete that information, the right to object to or restrict its processing, the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. Where the GDPR applies, we process this information on the basis of your consent (for the newsletter, and for analytics and advertising cookies where the law requires it) or our legitimate interest in operating the website, responding to inquiries, and preventing abuse. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email address below and we will handle your request as required by applicable law. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time the same way. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

The third-party providers named in this policy (Google, Sentry, our hosting provider) may process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States, under their own safeguards for international transfers. See "Data Retention" above for how long we keep each kind of information.

California and Other US State Privacy Rights

If you live in California or another US state with a consumer privacy law, you may have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion or correction, to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information or its use for targeted advertising, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information for money. However, the personalized advertising delivered by Google AdSense, unless you opt out, may count as "sharing" or "targeted advertising" under some of these laws. You can opt out with the "Personalized ads" button on our Cookie Policy page (also reachable through the "Manage cookies" link in the footer), and through Google Ads Settings. We also honor the Global Privacy Control browser signal as an opt-out from personalized advertising. Children

The website is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The generator can be used without providing any personal information; the only places we collect it are the contact and newsletter forms. If you believe a child under 16 has sent us personal information, contact us at the email address below and we will delete it.
