Cookie Policy
Last updated: September 16, 2026
This page explains which cookies and similar technologies Datamatrix Code Generator (https://www.datamatrix-code-generator.com) uses, what they are for, and how you can control them. It complements our Privacy Policy, which describes everything else we do with your information.
What Cookies Are
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser and that your browser sends back to the website on later visits. Cookies can be "first-party" (set by this website) or "third-party" (set by another service the page loads, such as Google). "Session" cookies are deleted when you close the browser; "persistent" cookies stay until they expire or you delete them. The generator also uses your browser's session storage, a related technology that keeps a value in your browser only and never sends it to us.
Your Choices
How consent works depends on where you are:
- European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland. On your first visit, a consent dialog provided by Google (the certified consent management platform used by Google AdSense) asks whether you accept cookies for advertising and analytics. Until you answer, and if you decline, Google Analytics and Google AdSense run in cookieless "consent mode": no analytics or advertising cookies are set and any ads shown are non-personalized. You can review or withdraw that consent at any time with the button below.
- Everywhere else. Analytics and advertising cookies are used by default, as permitted by the laws that apply there, and you can opt out of personalized advertising at any time with the button below. Opting out switches ads to non-personalized; Google may still set cookies for those ads (for example, for frequency capping or reporting) even though they are no longer personalized. The website works the same either way.
Cookies We Use
Essential (no consent needed)
These are required for the website to work and to protect it against abuse. They do not track you across sites.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
dmx_ads_optout |
This website | Set only if you turn off personalized ads on this page; remembers that choice. | 1 year |
__RequestVerificationToken |
This website | Anti-forgery token that protects the contact and newsletter forms against forged submissions. | Session |
_GRECAPTCHA |
Google reCAPTCHA (google.com) | Spam and abuse protection for the contact and newsletter forms. Loaded on every page because the newsletter form is in the footer. Subject to the Google Privacy Policy. | 6 months |
| Session storage (not a cookie) | This website | Restores your position on the generator page after a preview or download. Stays in your browser and is never transmitted to us. | Until the tab is closed |
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the website: pages visited, time on site, general location, and device type. This helps us decide what to improve. Google Analytics retains user- and event-level data for no longer than 14 months, as configured in our Analytics property, and then deletes it automatically.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another with a random identifier. | 2 years |
_ga_* |
Google Analytics | Keeps the state of the current visit for our Analytics property. | 2 years |
Advertising
Ads on the website are delivered by Google AdSense, which keeps the tool free. Google may set cookies to show ads that are more relevant to you and to measure ad performance. What happens if you don't want that depends on which control you use, because they are not the same thing:
- Declining in the EEA/UK/Switzerland consent dialog (or not answering it yet) puts Google's advertising tags in consent mode with storage denied: no advertising cookies are set at all, as described under Your Choices above.
- Turning off personalized ads with the button above (after consenting, or anywhere outside those regions) does not deny consent mode: it only tells Google to serve non-personalized ads. Google may still set cookies for those non-personalized ads, for purposes such as frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention.
Google describes these cookies in its cookie information.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
IDE |
Google (doubleclick.net) | Ad personalization and measurement across websites that use Google advertising. | 13 months |
__gads, __gpi |
Google (this website's domain) | Ad delivery, frequency capping and measurement. | 13 months |
__eoi |
Google (this website's domain) | Ad delivery and measurement; records whether personalized ads are opted out. | 6 months |
FCNEC, FCCDCF |
Google (this website's domain) | Store the consent state used by Google's advertising tags. | 12 to 13 months |
When advertising cookies are allowed, the ad networks that bid through Google may also set their own cookies from their own domains. Google publishes the list of these ad technology providers; we do not control them.
Other Ways to Opt Out
- Google Ads Settings — turn off personalized ads for your Google account or browser.
- Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on — blocks Google Analytics on every website.
- aboutads.info (Digital Advertising Alliance) and youronlinechoices.eu (European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance) — industry-wide opt-outs from interest-based advertising.
Browser Controls
Every browser lets you view, delete and block cookies, either for all websites or for specific ones. The generator uses an essential security cookie to validate form submissions; if you block all cookies, that protection fails and code generation, downloads and form submissions may stop working, along with the consent dialog (where it applies) reappearing on each visit and the contact and newsletter forms. The button above only controls whether ads are personalized; it does not block Google Analytics or every advertising cookie by itself (see Your Choices and the Advertising section above for what it does and does not do). To block Google Analytics specifically without blocking all cookies, use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on listed below; to block cookies at the browser level instead, see the per-browser instructions below. Instructions for the most common browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
There is no agreed standard for how websites should respond to the "Do Not Track" browser setting, so we do not act on it. We do honor the Global Privacy Control signal: if your browser sends it, we treat it as an opt-out from personalized advertising wherever you are.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this page when we add or remove a service that uses cookies. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. If a change means new non-essential cookies, consent will be requested again where the law requires it.
